About the Artist: Erin Shigaki

Published: Oct 2, 2025

Erin Shigaki

Erin Shigaki (she/they)

Erin is a yonsei (fourth-generation) Japanese American born and raised on the Duwamish land of Seattle. They make art that reflects and builds relationships within and across communities and are inspired to share BIPOC stories, often grounded in and flowing from the World War II incarceration of their family and community. They are keen to explore intergenerational trauma and the emergence of beauty and intimacy despite unspeakably harsh circumstances. Their work also examines the act of reclamation: of land, language, and culture.
